Engagement programme, exhibition and community take over with RESOLVE Collective, Bexhill College and The Blueprint Collective
De La Warr Pavilion, 2022
Working with artists RESOLVE Collective to create a leisure space and exhibition on the ground floor gallery of the De La Warr pavilion in Bexhill-on-Sea. The exhibition resulted from six months of engagement programme with young people from Bexhill College and DLWP’s Blueprint Collective. These collaborative ‘forages’ or workshops incorporated a range of methods, from flint knapping to audio-walking, as ways of gathering local materials, memories, and architectural forms from Bexhill, led by the tacit local knowledge and emotional connections of the young people. As such, LIDO invoked civic typologies that were popularised in UK coastal towns in the 1930’s and that were often themselves ‘foraged’ from the sea: littoral in name and in nature.
In the space, you could eat, relax, convene, and converse, immersed in the knowledges and experiences of the project’s young collaborators, whilst the space was also open throughout the summer as a meeting and operation space for local community organisations.
